Participants will make herbal medicines, track animals, make nature-based crafts and learn beginning wilderness skills. Woven into the program will be stories and music revolving around personal and group care, earth-care, connection and play. There will be 2 groups for grades 2-3 and 2 for grades 4-5.
Day camp is a way for students to get a taste of what we do in our afterschool programs. Any student who loves the outdoors and wants to learn crafts and some basic earth skills will enjoy this camp. Instructors will share their knowledge of local plants, birds, and animals, as well as earth skills, including camouflage, shelter building, and whittling. Participants will also create natural dyes and learn basic basketry. Games, stories and music will provide the drumbeat of camp throughout the week. The two age groups will spend most of the time in their own groups, but may also join together for special activities throughout the week. Day camp is a way to build connections and a sense of belonging to oneself, each other, and the natural world.
