Kathren believes we can transform ourselves and our world by connecting with our body’s wisdom, earth wisdom, and the healing power of nature. As a young adult, she learned the ropes of environmental education at the YMCA of the Rockies, where she led group hikes and taught at their summer day camp for youth. She went on to earn a BA in Honors Liberal Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Plant Ecology from UC Davis. With a specialization in Environmental Conservation and Restoration, she served as the Restoration Program Director for the Friends of Sausal Creek for several years and taught courses in ecology at Mills College (Restoration Ecology) and at the California Institute of Integral Studies (The Ecology and Poetry of Trees, and Plants and People: Exploring Nature through Relationship).

While working on her degree in Plant Ecology, Kathren became a certified yoga teacher and Breema bodywork practitioner. Kathren offered weekly yoga classes, workshops and retreats for over a decade and deepened her practice by training for six months at Mount Madonna Center in their Yoga, Service and Community Program. She later began offering The Yoga of Nature workshops and Yoga, Arts, and Ecology backpacking retreats. Kathren’s earth wisdom immersions have included trainings with Angeles Arrien over a period of five years and ongoing work with elders in Plant Spirit Healing. She is an affiliate member of the Organization for Nature Evolutionaries and a regular participant at the annual Bioneers Conference in San Rafael, CA. In addition to supporting Gaia Passages with operations, Kathren offers transformation and healing work and nature-based coaching for adults. www.wisdomecology.com
